The Low Down on Wireless Security Cameras
Who doesn’t love wireless? When running wires is barely possible, wireless technology can be a blessing. With lots of great, and cheap wireless security camera kits on the market today, there is no reason not to add a touch of security to your home or business. Throughout this report I am going to take a good look into X10′s XCam2 wireless camera kits. I find them to be of great quality, and the price can simply not be beat. Let’s take a look at a few things to consider before buying a wireless camera for your home or business.
Range or Distance
Pay close attention to the range specification provided by the retailer. Some cameras will say they will be effective up to 100’, although this may be only Line of Sight. Line of Sight means each camera should be able to see each other, not going through walls etc. Just be sure to make note of this. X10′s XCam2 Kits use 2.4 ghz and easily do 100’ through walls, floors and ceilings.
The base of the system will usually be positioned close to a TV or VCR for monitoring and recording the captured video. Be sure the camera location isn’t too far from this base, or reception issues will become a factor.
Powering the Wireless Cameras
This seems to be one thing some people don’t consider when looking into wireless. You still need to power the camera! Sure, the camera is wireless, but its only the video feed that’s wireless. Be sure a power source is located nearby. Battery power is not really an option here, as you’d be changing batteries several times daily.
Portability and Temporary Surveillance
Wireless security cameras are great for temporary surveillance applications. Is something getting into your garbage behind your house? Place a wireless outdoor security camera outside behind the house and have a look at what it is; or who it is depending on where you live. The point is, you can plug in a camera wherever in your home for instant surveillance! All the XCam2′s Cameras are outdoor/indoor for versatility.
Vibrant Color or Night Vision?
Not all wireless cameras can see equally in low light. Wireless color security cameras are generally used for strong lighting situations; as in during the day or in well lit indoor locations. Black and white really shines in low light situations. Its usually best to use wireless night vision security cameras at your entrances to keep an eye on things at night. The 4 Wireless Camera Kit from X10 comes with 2 low-light cameras.
Online Internet Access?
Not all kits offer Internet access. Being able to log into your surveillance system from work or vacation is truly great. Just think, you’ll be able to actually see your children walk in the door from school. Some people find it nice to be able to check up on their pets while at work. The XCam2 Kit provides Internet Remote Access, and will actually let you move one of the cameras up, down, left and right. All from anywhere in the world. Pretty cool stuff.
